As a young girl, Jennifer Hudson learned a love of sewing from her grandmother and mother.
Her self-employed father built houses for a living.
Being raised by two self-employed parents fostered a caring bond she wanted for her own family.
Hudson left the real estate/mortgage industry to stay home with her two daughters.
"My dad built houses and I decided to create hand-made treasures to transform a house into a home," she declared.
One evening her daughter was playing a "let's make up silly words" game and called her father a "strawberry?potato."
He responded "You're a Taterberry!"
The name for Hudson's home business was born.
In June 2004, Hudson opened Taterberry Cottage to showcase traditional children's clothing by Alex & Ari and Lucy Pearl.
"The apparel is reminiscent of heirlooms one might find in grandma's attic," states Hudson.
In addition to the romantic feel of such pieces, Hudson wanted to offer items both comforting and practical.

"She takes my doll everywhere and shares with it her most secret thoughts," she smiled.
